Waratah The NSW floral emblem, it is an erect, slender shrub to 3m high. Leaves are obovate to spoon-shaped,8-25cm long, to 6vm wide, leathery, strongly veined, toothed. Flowers red, up to 250 per dome-shaped head, to 15cm diameter, surrounded by a conspicuous ring of bright red bracts to 9cm long. Common in Sydney district, Blue Mountains and NSW south coast in dry open forest. Spring. Large
